workoutI love to workout in the summer by going up to the mountains and going on a hike once a week. It's not enough to do a workout just once a week, but it is certainly enjoyable to drive an hour and go for a four to six mile hike in the mountains. The smells of clean air, the sound of birds singing and the occasional thunderstorm are enough to keep me going up each weekend to stretch my legs. I live at 1,500 feet, and hike at 7,000 feet, but the workouts that I do doing the week are aerobic, so the change in elevation doesn't bother me too much. I may breathe a little harder on inclines, but overall, altitude sickness is not an issue. I have found that I can keep my interest in working out if I have interesting workouts, and hiking in the mountains is certainly an interesting way to workout. In the winter we hike in the deserts which is just out the back door and stay in shape all year long using the natural environment as our treadmill.
