Weight Loss And Childhood Obesity |

Last night I watched a short documentary on childhood obesity in the United States and some of the things I found out were really rather shocking. According to the information in this documentary the US health care system in the US will soon be bankrupt if parents across the nation do not help their children with weight loss and teach them better lifestyle choices. If we do not help our children with weight loss then in adulthood they will experience early onset of type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardio vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. When it comes to weight loss and children American parents have a fight on their hands. Everywhere I look I see commercials for sugary snacks and fast food and this works directly against the things we teach children about healthy nutrition. However there are still things we can do as parents to encourage weight loss and healthy living. I have three step-grandchildren and there are many things my husband and I do to encourage them to lead healthy lifestyles. First of all whenever we are looking after them I cook a healthy meal at home and we eat it together as a family. The grandchildren do not always like what I make but they know that if they do not eat it they will go hungry. There will be no sugary snacks to fill up on. We also encourage my grandchildren to workout. They go for long walks with us both, swim lengths in the pool with me, play baseball and shoot hoops with my husband and copy me when I do my resistance workout. We also make sure the grandchildren take vitamins supplements each day. None of my step-grandchildren are overweight.
