Weight Loss Is Difficult Without Exercise |

My father has had an issue with his weight since he was in his early thirties. Before that he was always fairly fit and active and he enjoyed playing sports like racket ball and soccer. However when I was three years old he fell off our roof while he was attempting to repair it. He broke his coccyx bone and ruptured his spleen. The doctors who took care of him told him he is lucky to have survived the accident. My dad has had major problems with his back since that day and is much less active than he used to be. Because of his bad back my dad has struggled with weight loss. He takes vitamins supplements and tries to watch what he eats. He loses weight but once he has dropped so many pounds he seems to stick at a certain point and this has a negative impact on his motivation. His weight loss problem stems from the fact that he cannot do any strenuous exercise. What’s more his weight loss struggles are compounded by the fact that he is now significantly overweight because he eats more calories than he burns off. The fact that he is overweight makes his back problems even worse. I feel sorry for my dad with his back problems and weight loss troubles but at the same time I think he could do a little more to help himself. I realize that he really can’t do high impact exercises without suffering significant pain. Nevertheless I think he could go on short walks in order to shift some of those extra pounds. He could always stop and rest every five or ten minutes while he walks. I have mentioned this to my dad but I don’t seem to be able to get through to him. He knows that the key to weight loss is vitamins supplements, sensible eating and exercise but he persists in being stubborn.
